Novant Health patients can finally hope to receive a part of the $6.6 million settlement, a punitive penalty in a class-action suit over a private data leak. The hospital system has been indicted for sharing patients’ personal information with the social media platform Facebook. This information was revealed in the plaintiffs’ settlement notice in the pending case.

Novant Health has been accused of using online tracing technology on its websites and the MyChart patient portal. The incident occurred between May 1, 2020, and Aug. 12, 2022, according to the claims made by the complainant. Novant Health has been indicted for sharing private information such as mobile numbers, emails, emergency contacts, and appointment details.

In response, the health provider has denied all charges, stating that it has not engaged in any unlawful activities. Novant is a North Carolina-based hospital system.

The case is still pending, and the final settlement has not been reached. These are just the initial stages of the suit, and the final settlement will be determined when the case is scheduled for a final hearing.

Novant Settlement Remuneration And Conditions

  • The final amount that patients will receive depends on the money remaining after deducting attorney fees and other expenses.
  • The petitioner has requested $2,500 from each case, according to the settlement notice.

Methodology to file a claim

  • Visit the site www.nhprivacysettlement.com. and file the claim. Settlement authorities can also be contacted by email at info@NHPrivacySettlement.com or by calling 844-925-0521.
  • The claims must bear the postmark not later than May 6.
  • Claims must be filed online before May 6.
  • If the patients are seeking to pursue the case on their own they can do it but they will have to opt out of the settlement by April 4.
  • If the clients do not take any action in the settlement, they will not receive any payment and also forfeit their right to take legal action.

Settlement Hearing Final Date

The date for the final hearing has been set for 9:30 a.m. on June 6, at the U.S. District Courthouse, 324 W. Market St., Greensboro. Any objections can be made in person at the final hearing. Plaintiffs are not required to attend the final hearing.
