Women’s Day special: Female gamers making their mark in Indian esports

New Delhi, March 8 (IANS) Esports, traditionally male-dominated, is now seeing a surge of female gamers challenging stereotypes. With talent and community support, women are proving that success in Esports is based on skill, not gender. Female gamers in Asia contribute significantly to the industry and are expected to continue growing.

According to the ‘Female Gamers in Asia’ report by Niko Partners, the market for female gamers in Asia represents 37% of total gamers, with an annual growth rate of 11%. Female gamers contribute about 23.5% of total revenue in the Asian games market and have the potential to double in size in the coming years. The industry is also witnessing an increase in female representation in various roles, from developers to CEOs.

Female gamers are making their mark in the gaming community and inspiring others to follow suit. Payal Dhare, known as PayalGaming, expressed pride in the growing influx of female talent in the industry. The emergence of more female protagonists in games is reshaping narratives and broadening the appeal to a wider audience.

Krutika Ojha, also known as KrutikaPlays, emphasized the positive evolution of the gaming industry for women. Both players are part of 8Bit Creatives and are leading figures in the Indian gaming scene. Brands are recognizing the influence of female gamers and are collaborating with them to tap into their reach within the gaming community. Initiatives like these are crucial for creating a more inclusive gaming community.
