Workshop for Domestic Head Coaches Conducted by Hockey India’s High-Performance Director

Hockey India’s High-Performance Director Herman Kruis recently conducted a workshop at the 14th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship 2024 in Pune. The workshop aimed to enhance coaching methods and grassroots hockey development to benefit young players in the domestic circuit.

Kruis emphasized the significance of instilling ownership in young athletes and promoting active learning over passive learning. He also stressed the importance of broad motor development and exposing players to diverse play styles and sports to build a strong foundation of skills.

Coaches from various states and associations attended the workshop, with Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey, Secretary-General Bhola Nath Singh, and Treasurer Sekar J Manoharan joining virtually. Kruis highlighted the need for effective coaching strategies that prioritize interactive learning and encourage players to articulate concepts themselves.

According to Kruis, empowering grassroots coaches is crucial for providing top-quality coaching and establishing strong fundamentals early on for players. This approach ensures a smoother transition for players entering the national setup. The workshop aimed to create a supportive learning environment and move away from mere competition where players try to outshine each other.
