History

World Hindi Day is observed every year on 10 January to mark the anniversary of the first World Hindi Conference held in 1975. The First World Hindi Conference was inaugurated by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Various countries such as Mauritius, the United Kingdom, Trinidad and Tobago, United States of America have hosted the World Hindi Conference since 1975. World Hindi Day was first celebrated on 10 January 2006 by former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and since then 10 January is celebrated as International Hindi Day. It is celebrated as a special day to promote hindi as a world language.

Significance, and Importance

The Hindi language has great importance in the life of us Indians. Hindi is one of the major languages spoken in the world. Hindi Diwas is celebrated with great pomp in all schools and colleges on 10th January. Literary programs are organized everywhere on this day and the historical importance of this day is understood. Let us tell you that on this special day, the President of our country honours those people who have done good work in the Hindi language. Let us tell you that Hindi is the fourth most spoken language in the world.

Many programs are organized in schools on this day so that students can understand the importance of Hindi and develop this language. Poetry, essay, and other competitions are organized among the students. At the same time, those working for the development of Hindi in the country and the world are honoured with Rashtrabhasha Kirti Puraskar and institutions with Rashtrabhasha Guru Puraskar.
