World leaders including UN chief condemn terrorist attack in Russia

United Nations, March 23 (IANS) – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned the terrorist attack outside Moscow, which left at least 40 people dead and over 100 injured. The attack at a concert hall has sparked messages of condolences and support from world leaders.

The Secretary-General’s Deputy Spokesman, Farhan Haq, stated, “The Secretary-General condemns ‘in the strongest possible terms’ the terrorist attack at a concert hall outside Moscow.” Leaders from across the globe have expressed shock and condemnation for the heinous act, along with offering their sympathies for the victims and their families.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro were among the first to denounce the attack, with Diaz-Canel calling it a “monstrous terrorist act” and Maduro labeling it an “atrocious armed attack.” Other leaders, including President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, and multiple Foreign Ministries, have joined in condemning the attack and offering support.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry reiterated its rejection of violence and terrorism, while the European Union expressed being “shocked and appalled” by the attack. The United States also extended condolences to the victims, with National Security Council spokesman John Kirby clarifying that there was no indication of Ukraine’s involvement in the attack.
