World Orphans Day 2024 Theme, Quotes, Images, Messages, Slogans, Posters, and Captions To Create Awareness

World Orphans Day is held on the second Monday of November every year. This year, it falls on 11 November. Ultimately, the motive behind this day is to raise awareness regarding the orphans of the world. Many of these children have lost their parents due to war, famine, displacement, disease, or poverty and have mostly limited access to the basic needs of a human being. Orphan day is specifically meant to make people aware of orphans and encourage people’s participation in supporting orphans.

The world’s first orphanage was opened by the Romans around 400 AD. Earlier, under Greek and Jewish laws, orphans were given financial assistance till the age of 18. The great philosopher Plato believed that orphans should get special care by society and their property should be taken care as carefully as a person takes care of his property. After this, shelters for orphans were established by churches in medieval Europe.

Orphanages in England had deteriorated so low in the early years of the 1900s that orphans there were exposed to extreme poverty and even brutality. In “Oliver Twist,” Charles Dickens relates a powerful glimpse of the hardships children experienced at such orphanages.

According to modern researchers, orphanages are not a proper choice for the care of children because children cannot get individual care and attention in them. Because of this, people of many Western countries began adopting orphans from the poor countries so that they could manage to give them a better life. But due to this, many cases of fraud also came into the light in which children were sold by the deceptive parents.

In 2006, The Stars Foundation initiated to celebrate this day for the first time so that the world could be made aware of the plight of orphans. It is because on this day, the message is meant to inspire all people around the world to provide care, respect, and protection to orphans.

This day is not only for awareness, but it is also the day to inspire people to take more active steps in this direction. You can hold an event, organize fundraising in your community, provide financial aid for an orphan’s education or health, or contribute to an orphanage in a poor country.

In 2017, key stakeholders in the AIDS community and orphanage appealed to the United Nations to make the day official. African mayors and local leaders were also appealed to describe why the day matters so that they also work for the welfare of orphans.
