World Rabies Day 2024 Theme, Quotes, Images, Messages, Posters, Slogans, and Cliparts To Create Awareness
Every year on September 28, World Rabies Day is celebrated to raise awareness on the prevention and control of this deadly but preventable viral disease called rabies. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Breaking Rabies Boundaries,” which emphasizes that the geographical, social, and cultural boundaries need to be obliterated in the fight against rabies to give communities all over the world the kind of access they need to vital information and resources to eliminate the disease.
The first World Rabies Day was observed in 2007 under the umbrella of the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC) to promote education and awareness towards the prevention of rabies. The day is dated to commemorate French scientist Louis Pasteur, who synthesized the first effective rabies vaccine and died on September 28, 1895. Ever since its origin, World Rabies Day has evolved into a global campaign supported by more than 150 countries.
Rabies is a viral infection characterized by bites and saliva from infected animals, mainly dogs. Through the invasion of the central nervous system, rabies causes severe complications and almost invariably leads to death if left untreated. However, rabies may be prevented if properly taken through vaccination and timely provision of post-exposure prophylaxis.
India constitutes 36% of the total rabies death in the world, with about 20,000 deaths annually, mainly through dog bites. This disease is more prevalent in rural areas, with minimal access to health care and PEP. Rabies control has been identified by the government of India as an integral part of public health and has implemented the National Rabies Control Programme (NRCP).
World Rabies Day reminds us of the global efforts to eliminate this disease. Breaking down the barriers and fostering collaboration can bring us to a future where no one has to die of this preventable disease. Join the movement and let’s take action to protect your community from rabies!
