World Zoonoses Day–  The day is celebrated on the 6th of July every year. It is observed to highlight the zoonotic disease and raise awareness of its impact on animal as well as human health. The word “zoonoses” denotes infections or diseases that are communicable from animals to humans.  Most of the time it is caused due to parasites, bacteria or viruses. Some of these diseases can have serious consequences for human health. The day is celebrated by many international and individual organisations across the globe by conducting various events and campaigns regarding zoonotic diseases and their impact on your health. The origin of World Zoonoses Day goes all the way back to 1885 when Louis Pasteur a French scientist developed a vaccine for rabies. Because of his achievement, it acted as a base for further research and development on zoonotic disease. These diseases are highly infectious and can be transferred from one animal to humans. During the early 20th century, the word  “zoonoses” was used to denote diseases that can be communicable from animals to humans. Since its discovery, the zoonotic has been proven to be highly harmful to mankind. Many outbreaks like Covid-19 and Ebola happened because of zoonotic. 

Back in 1998, the first international conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases was conducted in Atlanta, Georgia. The motive behind this was to introduce the concept of “One Health” which highlights the animal, human as well as environmental issues. Every year a new theme is announced to highlight the diseases and raise awareness effectively.
