World Sports Journalists Day : Every year on July 2, there is a celebration honoring sports journalists. The International Sports Press Association established the holiday in 1994 to commemorate its 70th anniversary. It is also known as International Sports Journalists Day. Sports journalism emerged in the 1800s, and it was more concerned with commenting on the social background of sporting events than it was with covering elitist sports. As publications gave sports journalists more spacetime in the 1920s, the industry started to take shape.

The organization’s current headquarters are located in Lausanne, Switzerland, which is home to the Olympic Games. The A.I.P.S. is a nonprofit organization with 160 professional associations. It is funded by union dues as well as gifts from other international organizations and confederations.

The A.I.P.S.’s website states that its mission is “to solidify the relationship, solidarity, and shared interests among both sports reporters of all nations, to ensure the best workplace conditions for representatives, and to improve the collaborative efforts between its member organizations in trying to defend the sport and the professional interest of members.”
