WPL 2024: Ellyse Perry’s Brilliant 66 Leads RCB to 135/6 vs Mumbai Indians

New Delhi, March 15 (IANS) Top all-rounder Ellyse Perry shined for Royal Challengers Bangalore with a brilliant knock of 66, leading the team to a total of 135/6 against Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 Eliminator match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday.

Ellyse’s exceptional batting performance, including eight fours and a six, helped RCB put up a competitive total on the board. Despite some exceptional bowling efforts from Mumbai Indians, RCB managed to score crucial runs in the last five overs of the innings.

Mumbai Indians bowlers like Saika Ishaque, Hayley Matthews, and Nat Sciver-Brunt picked up wickets, but a dropped catch in the last over by Sajeevan Sajana proved costly. Ellyse’s composed innings was crucial in RCB’s fightback on a pitch where the ball behaved unpredictably.

Batting first, RCB got off to a good start with Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine playing some attacking strokes. However, Mumbai Indians fought back, picking up quick wickets to put pressure on the RCB batting lineup.

Although RCB suffered setbacks during the innings, Ellyse Perry’s partnership with Sophie Molineux helped stabilize the team. Ellyse’s fifty in 44 balls provided the much-needed impetus for RCB to push the score beyond 130.

Despite Ellyse’s heroics, RCB lost some quick wickets towards the end of the innings. Georgia Wareham’s powerful six ensured RCB reached a respectable total of 135/6 in their allotted 20 overs against Mumbai Indians.

In response, Mumbai Indians will have to chase down the target set by RCB to secure a spot in the next stage of the tournament. With both teams putting up a strong fight, the Eliminator match promises to be an exciting contest between two top sides in the WPL 2024.
