WPL 2024: Sajana's last-ball six, Harmanpreet, Yastika fifties help Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals

In a thrilling last-over finish, Mumbai Indians managed to defeat Delhi Capitals by four wickets in the opening match of Season 2 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium. Debutante Sanjeevan Sajana’s last-ball six sealed the victory for Mumbai Indians.

The night began with a dazzling inaugural ceremony led by Bollywood stars, followed by Alice Capsey’s impressive 75-run innings that helped Delhi Capitals post a challenging total of 171/5 after being put into bat by the defending champions, Mumbai Indians.

The match saw multiple twists and turns, with Mumbai Indians needing 12 runs from the final over. Despite a valiant effort by Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored a crucial boundary, the game came down to the wire with Mumbai needing 5 off the last ball. Sajana’s six off the final delivery secured the win for Mumbai.

Yastika Bhatia and Harmanpreet Kaur played pivotal roles in the chase for Mumbai Indians, with Yastika scoring 57 runs and Harmanpreet hitting 55 runs. Their partnerships kept Mumbai Indians in the run chase before the dramatic finish.

Delhi Capitals’ innings featured strong performances from Alice Capsey, who scored 75 runs, and partnerships with Meg Lanning and Jemimah Rodrigues. Despite a competitive total, Mumbai Indians’ resilience ensured a thrilling victory in the season opener of WPL.
