Bengaluru, Feb 25 (IANS) Asha Shobana Joy’s five-wicket haul propelled Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to victory in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024. Former India cricketer Reema Malhotra praised Asha’s bowling performance, calling her a match-winner.

In a thrilling match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Asha took five crucial wickets against UP Warriorz, helping RCB defend a total of 158 runs. Her impressive bowling skills turned the game in RCB’s favor, leading to a two-run victory in a last-ball finish, making it the second consecutive close match of the tournament.

Reema Malhotra commended Asha’s strategy, saying, “Leg-spinners are match-winners, and the pace at which Asha bowled made a difference. She’s a confident player who has a wicket-taking attitude, making her a match-winner.” The Player of the Match award was rightfully given to Asha for her outstanding performance.

Former India cricketer Parthiv Patel highlighted Asha’s game-changing spell, stating, “In a format like this, you can turn the game around in just one over. Asha’s three wickets in an over shifted the momentum in RCB’s favor, proving that defending a small total is possible.”

RCB captain Smriti Mandhana acknowledged Asha’s experience and talent, mentioning, “Asha’s wealth of experience helped the team immensely, especially when the opposition was building a threatening partnership.” Asha’s composure and control were instrumental in RCB’s triumph.

Asha expressed her emotions after receiving the Player of the Match award, stating, “A lot of struggle and hard work went into this victory. Bowling with control is one of my strengths. I visualized the situation and did my homework, and I was ready for it.”

Richa Ghosh, who top-scored with 62 runs, praised Asha’s performance, saying, “Asha bowled exceptionally well, especially in the last over. Her contribution was crucial in shifting the match in our favor.” The team effort and coaching support were key in achieving the victory.

All-rounder Ellyse Perry lauded the home support RCB received from the fans, describing the atmosphere as special. The overwhelming fan support from the toss to the match’s conclusion made the victory even more memorable for the team.
