X bans more than 200,000 accounts for policy violations in India during March

In a recent report, X Corp, led by Elon Musk, has banned a record 2,12,627 accounts in India between February 26 and March 25, with the majority of accounts being removed for promoting child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity.

Out of the total banned accounts in the reporting period, 1,235 accounts were taken down for promoting terrorism on the platform in India. X Corp disclosed these numbers in its monthly report to comply with the new IT Rules, 2021, revealing that they received 5,158 complaints from users in India during the same timeframe.

Interestingly, the company also processed 86 grievances related to appealing account suspensions, overturning 7 of the suspensions after reviewing the specifics of the cases. The remaining reported accounts remained suspended, as confirmed by X Corp.

Moreover, X Corp received 29 requests in India during this period, primarily related to general questions about accounts. The complaints from India included issues like ban evasion, sensitive adult content, hateful conduct, and abuse/harassment, with ban evasion being the most common reason cited by users.

Prior to this reporting period, between January 26 and February 25, X Corp banned 5,06,173 accounts in India and also removed 1,982 accounts for promoting terrorism on its platform in the country. The company seems to be actively enforcing its policies to ensure a safer and more responsible online environment for its users in India.
