Established in 2000, ‘Make My Trip’ is an Indian online travel company offering a diverse range of services. The company’s headquarters is located in Gurugram, Haryana.

Here why Xiangrong Li from China Trended on X

Presently, on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Xiangrong Li is trending alongside the #UninstallMakeMyTrip hashtag. The Twitter community is urging the removal of Xiangrong Li from her position as a director of the company.

Reports indicate escalating tension between India and Maldives. Consequently, Indian citizens oppose Chinese involvement in the directorship of a company serving Indians.

The hashtag #UninstallMakeMyTrip is trending vigorously with hundreds of thousands of posts on Twitter. The core issue is Xiangrong Li, a Chinese citizen holding an independent directorship in a Gurugram-based tour and travel company. Indians argue that by appointing Chinese individuals in top-level positions, MakeMyTrip indirectly supports the Maldives and directly supports China.

About Xiangrong Li

Xiangrong Li graduated from the Shanghai International Studies Institute and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics with a major in International Accounting. Furthermore, she obtained her Master of Executive Management Business Administration degree from China Europe International Business School in 2008. Xiangrong has prior experience working at Beijing Tourist Hotel (Group) Co., Ltd., where she served as a financial controller and deputy general manager.

Since April 2016, Beijing Tourist Hotel has been listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. Xiangrong Li held various positions at Unilever from 1993 to 2010, including the role of Financial Controller for the Greater China Region from 2007 to 2010.

From 2010 to 2014, Xiangrong served as the Chief Financial Officer at Hengdai Holdings Limited. Additionally, from August 2014 to April 2016, she held the position of CFO at Homins Hotel Group.
