Mahishasura Mardini Written By Adi Sankaracharya

This powerful verse is written by Guru Adi Sankaracharya (Sri Sri Sri Shankara Bhagavatpadacharya). When Mahishasura was wreaking havoc on the world, all the Gods combined their powers and created Ma Durga, the fiercest avatar of Mother Parvati.

After this, all the gods combined their radiance in one place, and the goddess was born from this power. The part of the body of the goddess was born out of a part of the power of each deity. The brilliance of Lord Shiva created the face of the mother, the arms by the intensity of Lord Vishnu, and the two feet of the mother by the luminosity of Brahma.

The head and hair with the brightness of Yamraj, the bosom with the splendor of the Moon, the waist with the grandeur of Indra, the thighs with the splendor of Varuna, the trunk with the glory of the earth, the fingers of both feet with the magnificence of the Sun, all the teeth with the brilliance of Prajapati, With the vividness of fire, both the eyes, the brows from the brightness of the evening, the ears from the luminosity of the wind and the intensity of the other deities made the different parts of the goddess.

The goddess was born, but for the end of Mahishasura, the goddess still needed immense power. So then Lord Shiva gave him his Trishul, Lord Vishnu the Sudarshan Chakra, Hanuman Ji his mace, Shri Ram the bow, Agni a quiver full of arrows, Varun the divine conch, Prajapati a garland of crystal gems, Laxmiji the lotus flower, Indra The Thunder, Sheshnag, the serpent adorned with jewels, Varun Dev gave the loop and arrow, Brahmaji gave the four Vedas, and the Himalaya Mountains gave the mother lion as their vehicle. So goddess Durga held all these weapons in her 18 arms.

Goddess Durga riding a Lion with eighteen arms carrying an assortment of weapons, was finally able to kill the Demon Mahishasura.
