History Behind The Celebration

Religious texts claim that Lord Shankar told Maa Parvati the tale of Teej in important to notify her of her previous life. Parvati was informed by Lord Shiva that she was Sati, a previous-life descendant of King Daksha. She was also Lord Shankar’s cherished spouse when she took on the form of Sati.

At first when Lord Shankar was not invited to a large Yagya that Sati’s father Daksha had organized out of spite. When Sati learned of this, she begged Lord Shankar to attend the Yagya, but he declined to go without an invitation.
