The first day is called Dhanteras, followed by Chhoti Diwali, Diwali, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj.

Diwali is celebrated to mark the return of Lord Rama along with Lord Lakshman and Maa Sita to Ayodhya after 14 years. Lord Rama killed Ravana, the King of Lanka, and returned from his exile. Thus, the people of Ayodhya decorated their houses with lighting diyas, hence the celebration of Diwali began. However, Hindus commemorate Diwali for different reasons. This festival is observed throughout India, it marks the cultural heritage of the country as well.
