Ishan, Shreyas likely to lose central contracts over Ranji Trophy absence: Report

India batters Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer are likely to be excluded from the BCCI central contract over their absence from the Ranji Trophy, reports suggest. The BCCI Secretary had previously warned players about the consequences of prioritizing IPL over domestic cricket.

Kishan and Iyer, holding Grade C and Grade B contracts respectively, are expected to be omitted from the list of centrally contracted players for the 2023-24 season. Their lack of participation in domestic cricket seems to have led to this decision. Iyer recently opted out of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy quarterfinal due to a back pain.

Kishan, who last played for India in the T20I series against Australia, decided to step back from the South Africa tour for personal reasons. Instead of competing in the Ranji Trophy for Jharkhand, he has been training in Baroda with Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya. These actions may have contributed to his potential exclusion from the central contract.
