BCCI Secretary Jay Shah Hails Ashwin for 100 Test Wickets Against England

Ranchi, Feb 23 (IANS) BCCI secretary Jay Shah praised Ravichandran Ashwin for becoming the first Indian to take 100 Test wickets against England. Ashwin achieved the milestone by dismissing Jonny Bairstow lbw on the first day of the fourth Test.

In a statement on X, Shah congratulated Ashwin, saying, “Setting new records yet again, @ashwinravi99 has made history by becoming the first Indian to take 100 Test wickets against England. His outstanding performance further cements his status as one of the greatest spin bowlers in cricket history. Congratulations!”

Ashwin now joins an elite group with Australia’s Nathan Lyon as the only active players to have taken 100 wickets against England. The overall record is held by Shane Warne with 195 wickets from 72 innings.

Earlier, Ashwin also reached the milestone of 500 Test wickets, becoming only the second Indian to achieve this feat. The 37-year-old spin maestro claimed his 500th wicket by dismissing Zak Crawley during the third Test against England in Rajkot.

Ashwin’s exceptional achievements in Test cricket continue to solidify his reputation as one of the best spin bowlers in the history of the sport, showcasing his talent and dedication to the game.
