Santosh Trophy 2024: Necio brace powers Goa to victory over Kerala; Services down Arunachal

In a thrilling encounter, Goa defeated Kerala 2-0 in the 77th National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy at Golden Jubilee Stadium in Yupia. Necio Fernandes shined with a goal in each half, propelling Goa to second place with four points.

Kerala’s early efforts were foiled by the post, and captain Nijo Gilbert’s injury shifted the momentum towards Goa. Necio capitalized on a lucky break to score the opener, while Laximanrao Rane set him up for the second goal, securing the win for Goa.

Despite Kerala’s persistent attacks, Goa’s defense held firm, denying any chances of a comeback. Goa’s strategic gameplay and Necio’s clinical finishing proved to be the difference in the match, as Kerala struggled to break through and succumbed to defeat.

In other matches, Services dominated Arunachal Pradesh with a 4-0 win, while Assam overcame Meghalaya with a 2-1 victory despite being a man down. The tournament continues to showcase exciting talent and fierce competition as teams battle for supremacy on the football field.
