4th Test: Jaiswal becomes fifth Indian batter to score 600 runs in a Test series, breaks Sehwag's record for sixes

Ranchi, Feb 24 (IANS) Yashasvi Jaiswal, the prodigious southpaw, made history by becoming the fifth Indian batter to score 600 or more runs in a Test series, with 73 runs on the second day of the fourth Test against England at the JSCA International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Jaiswal has now amassed 618 runs in just seven innings across four Tests against England, with an outstanding average of 103 and a formidable strike rate of 78.32, including two centuries and two half-centuries.

Joining the league of Indian greats like Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli, Dilip Sardesai, and Rahul Dravid, Jaiswal is on the verge of breaking Gavaskar’s record of 774 runs in a Test series – standing just 156 runs away from creating history in cricket.

On the second day in Ranchi, Jaiswal set a new record by hitting 23 sixes in just five matches in 2024, surpassing Virender Sehwag’s record for the most Test sixes by an Indian batter in a calendar year. With 934 runs at an average of 71.84, he is close to reaching the 1000-run milestone in Test cricket.

At a young age, Jaiswal has already etched his name alongside cricketing legends like Sir Don Bradman and Graeme Smith, as one of the few batters to exceed 600 runs in a Test series before turning 23.
