CAG officer playing in IVPL hopes to inspire cricketing dreams in Jammu & Kashmir

The Indian Veteran Premier League (IVPL) has given a new lease on cricketing life to Jammu & Kashmir players, Samiullah Beigh and Omar Alam. Playing for Red Carpet Delhi, they are thrilled to be back on the field alongside international stars like Herschelle Gibbs and Thisara Perera. Samiullah, who retired in 2018 after a successful career, and Omar, who balanced cricket with a job at the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) office, are showcasing their skills and passion for the game in the IVPL.

Samiullah expressed his excitement about returning to competitive cricket in the IVPL, stating, “Once we retire from FC cricket, we don’t get the same opportunity to push ourselves. It’s like a new life for us to challenge ourselves again and compete with legends of the game.” Similarly, Omar highlighted the unique experience of playing alongside international stars in the league, mentioning, “IVPL is giving us an amazing experience to play with renowned players like Gibbs, Perera, and Nurse.”

In their initial matches, both players are aiming to make significant contributions to their team. Samiullah, known for his all-round skills, picked up four wickets in his first IVPL match and is eager to showcase his abilities in batting, bowling, and fielding. On the other hand, Omar, balancing his cricketing passion with a job at the CAG office, is committed to excelling on the field and inspiring the future generation of players in Jammu & Kashmir.

As they continue to shine in the IVPL, Samiullah and Omar hope to inspire more players from their region to pursue cricket actively. Samiullah emphasized the impact of their participation in the league, stating, “For J and K, this will be a big event. They’ll see me coming out of retirement and playing this league, inspiring others to take up cricket.” Similarly, Omar believes that the IVPL will reignite the passion for cricket among retired players, stating, “This league is going to inspire a lot of people. Hopefully, it will motivate everyone to keep playing and cherish the sport.”

Overall, the IVPL has not only rejuvenated the cricketing careers of Samiullah Beigh and Omar Alam but has also sparked a new wave of enthusiasm and inspiration in the Jammu & Kashmir cricketing community. With their dedication and skill on display, these players are set to leave a lasting impact on the tournament and inspire budding cricketers in their region.
