Delhi Capitals defeat RCB by 25 runs despite Smriti Mandhana’s 74 in WPL Season 2

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Skipper Smriti Mandhana’s brilliant 74 couldn’t prevent Delhi Capitals from winning by 25 runs in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 Match 7 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Mandhana’s performance was overshadowed by Jess Jonassen and Shafali Verma, sealing the victory for Delhi Capitals.

Mandhana’s 74 off 43 balls, with 10 boundaries and three sixes, kept RCB in the game, but a middle and lower-order collapse limited them to 169/9 in 20 overs. Delhi Capitals had set a target of 194/5, with Verma (50) and Capsey (46) leading the charge. Jonassen’s 3-21 and contributions from Kapp and Reddy ensured the victory for Delhi.

Verma’s 50 and Capsey’s 46, alongside Jonassen’s all-round performance, were crucial for Delhi’s strong total. Mandhana and Devine’s partnership for RCB was promising, but the team faltered in the end. Despite individual brilliance, RCB couldn’t match Delhi’s overall performance on the field.

In the first innings, Shafali Verma built on her early reprieve to lead Delhi’s charge, while Capsey provided crucial support. RCB’s bowlers struggled to contain the duo as Delhi reached 194/5. RCB’s effort fell short despite Mandhana’s heroics, handing Delhi the win by 25 runs in a thrilling encounter.
