Abu Dhabi, March 1 (IANS) – In a thrilling match at the Tolerance Oval Cricket Stadium, Ireland’s men’s cricket team secured their first Test victory by defeating Afghanistan by six wickets on day three of the only Test.

Chasing a target of 111 runs, after bowling out Afghanistan for 218, Ireland initially found themselves in trouble at 13 for 3 in their fourth innings. However, skipper Andy Balbirnie’s unbeaten 58 and Lorcan Tucker’s 27 not out helped Ireland secure their maiden Test win.

This victory is significant for Ireland, who have only played seven Test matches since 2018, as they finally tasted victory in Test cricket.

In a post-match statement, Balbirnie expressed his excitement, saying, “It’s a special feeling to secure our first Test win. The team showed great character and determination throughout the match.”

The brief scores are as follows: Afghanistan – 155 and 218 all out; Ireland – 263 and 111/4.
