In a thrilling encounter at Naihati Stadium, Mohammedan Sporting secured a 3-1 victory over Namdhari FC in the I-League 2023-24 match on Saturday. The goals from Zodingliana and Bikash Singh, along with an own goal, sealed the win for the home team, extending their lead in the league.
Despite playing at their home ground, Mohammedan took some time to find their rhythm in the game. Namdhari’s solid defensive display made it difficult for the home side to create many scoring opportunities, with too many errant passes from the midfield.
The first goal for Mohammedan came in the 38th minute, as Zodingliana capitalized on a defensive error from Namdhari. The captain’s shot deflected off Akashdeep Singh and found the back of the net, leaving goalkeeper Jaspreet Singh with no chance.
Mohammedan doubled their lead in the 67th minute through a quick counterattack, with Bikash Singh finishing off a well-timed pass from Angousana. Despite Namdhari pulling one back through a penalty, an own goal by Akashdeep Singh restored the home team’s two-goal advantage.
Namdhari put up a strong fight in the closing stages of the game, testing Padam Chettri in goal. However, Mohammedan held on to secure a clinical victory, maintaining their lead at the top of the table in the I-League 2023-24 season.
