Ponting plans to bring back Pant in a different role: a big decision

New Delhi, March 11 (IANS) Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting has shared his plans for the upcoming IPL season with the return of star player Rishabh Pant. Ponting emphasized the anticipation surrounding Pant’s comeback to action after a challenging period of recovery.

According to sources, Pant is set to return to competitive cricket in the IPL after receiving a fitness certificate from the National Cricket Academy. Ponting expressed his expectation for Pant to lead the team from the start of the tournament, if his fitness allows.

The coach mentioned that Pant has been working hard to make a strong comeback, participating in practice matches and training sessions at the NCA. Ponting acknowledged Pant’s dedication to his fitness and performance, indicating positive signs for his readiness for Delhi’s IPL opener against the Punjab Kings on March 23.

Having faced setbacks, including a near-fatal car crash in December 2022, Pant’s return to action is eagerly awaited not just by the Delhi Capitals but by fans worldwide. Ponting highlighted the desire to see Pant back on the field playing with his characteristic energy, believing that the young talent can make a significant impact for the team.

“I’m very hopeful, not from a selfish point of view as the coach of the Delhi Capitals, but I want to see him back playing cricket again. I think the whole world wants to see him back playing cricket again and just playing with that youthful exuberance that he has. If he does that, then I know he’ll win some games for Delhi and we’ll have a good time along the way this season,” Ponting stated.
