Theegala places T-6, Scheffler emerges victorious at Palmer Invitational with third Top 10 finish of the year

Orlando (US), March 11 (IANS) Indian-American golfer Sahith Theegala finished in Tied-sixth place at the Arnold Palmer Invitational after a strong performance, carding a 4-under 68. This marked his third Top-6 finish in seven starts in 2024. Theegala started the final day in T-25 and climbed up the leaderboard with birdies and two late bogeys, ultimately finishing at 5-under for the week.

Theegala showcased his skills with birdies on the fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, 11th, 13th, and 16th holes, but bogeys on the 15th and 18th hampered his progress. Despite the setbacks, he managed to secure a Top-10 finish with a total score of 5-under at the prestigious US$20 million Signature Event. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler emerged as the champion, shooting a bogey-free 6-under 66 for a five-shot win.

Scheffler’s victory at the Bay Hill marked his second title in three years at the event and his seventh PGA Tour win overall. Reflecting on his win, Scheffler expressed, “It’s really special. Palmer meant a lot to me, meant a lot to us as professional golfers and the game of golf, and so it’s very special to be able to sit here and wear his red sweater again.” Reigning US Open champion Wyndham Clark secured the runner-up position, while Shane Lowry settled for third place.

Korea’s Byeong Hun An also had a successful outing, finishing T-8 with a total score of 4-under after a final round 68. On the other hand, Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, who started the final round just two shots off the lead, struggled with a disappointing 76 and finished T-12. The Arnold Palmer Invitational, held in honor of legendary golfer Arnold Palmer, saw top golfers from around the world compete for the prestigious title.
