Wozniacki advances to Indian Wells quarterfinals with win over Kerber, set to play Swiatek next

Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark defeated Angelique Kerber to reach the quarterfinals at the BNP Paribas Open, her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal since 2019. Wozniacki, the last mom standing of the seven over 33, advanced after a 6-4, 6-2 win over Kerber who was on a 17-month sabbatical.

The match saw Wozniacki dominating early with a 5-1 lead in the first set before Kerber fought back. After a back and forth battle, Wozniacki claimed the set 6-4. Both players required medical timeouts, but it was Kerber who struggled with a lower back issue in the second set.

In the end, Wozniacki’s experience and sharp play helped her secure the victory. She will now face world No.1 Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals. Swiatek, who defeated Yulia Putintseva in straight sets, is in stellar form and aiming for her second title of the season.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk advanced to her first Paribas Open quarterfinal after defeating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Kostyuk will face Anastasia Potapova in the next round, setting up an exciting match between two promising young talents. The tournament continues to showcase thrilling matches and unexpected outcomes as it progresses.
