Struggling with your dental braces? AI is here to help!

New Delhi, March 14 (IANS) – A team of researchers from the University of Copenhagen and 3Shape have developed an artificial intelligence tool that uses scanned imagery of teeth and bone structures to predict the design of dental braces with accurate 3D simulations for straightening teeth.

The AI tool assists orthodontists in determining where braces should exert pressure, reducing the need for multiple adjustments and visits to the orthodontist’s office. Prof. Kenny Erleben from the varsity’s Department of Computer Science highlighted the potential of this technology to improve orthodontic treatments and reduce resources in the long run.

The team’s work involves creating a database of ‘digital dental patients’ through precise digital imitations with 3D simulations known as digital twins. This technology can be applied to various medical devices and treatments in the future, leading to more precise targeting of patients and potential cost savings for society.

The innovative AI tool has the potential to revolutionize orthodontic treatments by providing personalized solutions based on individual jaw structures and teeth alignment. With further data collection and research, the team aims to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of orthodontic care, benefiting patients across entire populations.
