Mumbai Indians Hopeful Ahead of WPL 2024 Eliminator Showdown

New Delhi, March 14 (IANS) Mumbai Indians batting coach Devieka Palshikaar expressed optimism ahead of the team’s eliminator clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore in WPL 2024. Reflecting on last season’s journey, Devieka sees a similar pattern emerging this year.

In WPL 2023, Mumbai Indians had a rollercoaster ride before ultimately clinching the title. Devieka pointed out, “We lost against UP Warriorz last season in the league and had a slightly up-down season towards the end. We then bounced back in the Eliminator with a largely one-sided win. This time too the same pattern has persisted so far and we’re looking at it as a good luck sign.”

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s performance with the bat will be crucial for Mumbai Indians once again. Despite some inconsistent outings, Harmanpreet leads the team’s run tally in WPL 2024. Notably, she smashed a sensational 95 off 48 balls in a historic chase against Gujarat Giants, setting a new record for the highest score by an Indian batter in the WPL.

Devieka highlighted Harmanpreet’s ability to switch gears during an innings, attributing it to the player’s unique preparation methods. She mentioned, “A player’s inner voice does guide them in saying that preparation has to be done in a certain way.”

The batting coach also provided an update on wicketkeeper-opener Yastika Bhatia, confirming that she is recovering well and expected to return for the Eliminator match. This news will likely see Sajana Sajeevan reverting to her finishing role in the team.
