DC head coach Batty admits team fell short on runs despite strong start in WPL 2024

New Delhi, March 18 (IANS) – The Delhi Capitals fell short in the finals of the WPL, losing to Royal Challengers Bangalore. Despite a strong start, they were bowled out for 113. The head coach, Jonathan Batty, acknowledged the team’s batting shortcomings but commended their fielding efforts.

DC began their innings with a blazing start, scoring 61 runs in the powerplay. However, once the spinners came into play, they lost all their wickets for just 49 runs. Batty supported the team’s aggressive batting style, stating that a few more runs could have made a significant difference in the outcome of the match.

Despite the loss, Batty praised the team’s performance throughout the tournament and credited the players for their consistent efforts. He dismissed claims that the batters were spooked by the pitch and emphasized that the pitch played well throughout the game, attributing the loss to RCB’s effective bowling strategy.

DC captain Meg Lanning’s decision to use more fast bowlers in the defense of a low total was commended by Batty. He lauded her captaincy and strategic approach, acknowledging her efforts to keep the game competitive until the final over. Lanning’s exceptional performance throughout the tournament was also highlighted by Batty.

Batty expressed satisfaction with the improvement shown by the Indian domestic players in the DC camp. He praised players like Arundhati Reddy, Radha Yadav, Titas Sadhu, and Minnu Mani for stepping up and delivering consistent performances. He emphasized the growth and development of Indian players in the WPL, noting a significant improvement from the previous season.

In conclusion, Batty praised the overall quality of cricket in the tournament and expressed confidence in the potential of Indian domestic players to continue excelling in future competitions. Despite the defeat in the finals, he remained optimistic about the team’s progress and the bright prospects for upcoming talents in Indian cricket.
