Shadab Khan supports Shaheen Afridi as Pakistan T20I captain

Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan has spoken out against the potential decision to remove Shaheen Shah Afridi as the T20I captain following a series loss to New Zealand. Shaheen took over the captaincy from Babar Azam but faced criticism after the 4-1 defeat in the T20I series.

Speaking after Islamabad United’s PSL semi-final win, Shadab emphasized the importance of continuity in leadership and team selection, especially with the T20 World Cup on the horizon. He stressed the need for patience and long-term planning to ensure success on the global stage.

Shadab warned against hasty decisions, stating, “It’s important to see how we accept those failures. We need to identify players for the long run so that by the time we reach the World Cup, our issues are resolved.” He urged for stability and trust in Shaheen’s leadership abilities despite the recent series loss.

Shadab’s Islamabad United will face Multan Sultans in the PSL final on Monday. The all-rounder’s comments come amidst speculation about changes in the Pakistan T20I captaincy, with concerns raised about the team’s approach leading up to the World Cup.
