IPL 2024: MS Dhoni Passes On CSK Captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad

In a surprising move, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been appointed as the new captain of Chennai Super Kings for the upcoming IPL 2024 season, replacing MS Dhoni. Gaikwad, who has been with the team since 2019, will lead the team in their season opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Friday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

The franchise confirmed the news on their official website, stating, “MS Dhoni has handed over Chennai Super Kings’ captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the start of IPL 2024. The team looks forward to the upcoming season with Ruturaj leading from the front.”

This announcement was also made on social media, with Gaikwad participating in a pre-captains photoshoot and meeting other team captains. This marks a significant milestone in Gaikwad’s career as he takes on the role of captaincy for the first time in the IPL.

This will be only the second time in IPL history that MS Dhoni will not start the season as captain of CSK, with Ravindra Jadeja having taken over in IPL 2022 before being replaced by Dhoni midway through the season. Gaikwad will now lead the team in their quest for another successful IPL campaign.

The stage is set for an exciting season of IPL as fans eagerly anticipate Ruturaj Gaikwad’s captaincy debut with Chennai Super Kings. The team will look to start off on a strong note under his leadership as they face off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their season opener.
