Mats Wilander Shrugs Off Concerns Over Novak Djokovic’s Poor Form: “He Doesn’t Really Care”

Former Swedish tennis player Mats Wilander has dismissed concerns about Novak Djokovic’s form after the world No.1 suffered a shock defeat to lucky loser Luca Nardi at Indian Wells. 20-year-old Italian Nardi pulled off a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 upset in the third round, becoming the lowest-ranked player to beat Djokovic at the Masters 1000 or Grand Slam level.

Wilander stated, “Novak Djokovic doesn’t really care when he loses in the smaller tournaments. I think he goes on a trip just to test himself, and then he gets to a tournament and realises he’s close enough.” Despite Djokovic’s recent losses, Wilander believes the Serbian will be at his best for the French Open in two months and push through for Wimbledon and the Olympics.

Wilander is not worried about Djokovic’s performance, stating that fewer wins on tour have left him fresh for Grand Slam tournaments.
