IPL 2024: Porel’s commendable temperament credited, missed catches could have changed result, says Amre

DC’s strategy of including Abishek Porel as an Impact Player paid off as he scored 32* off 10 balls to take them to 174/9 against Punjab Kings. However, despite his efforts, DC lost the match. Porel’s innings showcased his talent and potential for the future.

“We had seen him in our preparations during the practice camp and games that he was striking well. That’s where we as a coaching unit and captain were keen to have par runs on the field in this match,” said Pravin Amre, DC’s assistant coach, praising Porel’s performance.

Facing Harshal Patel’s slower deliveries in the final over, Porel played a range of shots to score three fours and two sixes, giving DC’s bowlers something to defend. However, DC’s bowlers struggled to contain the Kings’ batsmen, leading to their defeat despite Porel’s heroics.

Dropped catches and injuries further hampered DC’s chances of a win. Ishant Sharma’s ankle injury led to DC being a bowler short, while dropped catches by the fielders added to their woes. The team acknowledged the missed opportunities but praised Porel for his exceptional innings.

DC’s decision to include four overseas batters meant no room for opener Prithvi Shaw in the lineup. Assistant coach Amre attributed this to Anrich Nortje’s absence and indicated Shaw’s potential inclusion in future matches. Nortje is expected to join the team for their next game against Rajasthan Royals.

Overall, DC showed promise with their batting performance, especially with Porel’s explosive innings. However, their bowling unit struggled to contain the opposition, leading to their loss against Punjab Kings. The team will reevaluate their strategy for the upcoming matches, considering the inclusion of key players like Nortje and Shaw.
