Sumitra Mahajan believes Kho Kho will solidify its global presence in the future

Former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan inaugurated the 56th National Kho Kho Championship at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, New Delhi on Wednesday. She unveiled the mascot ‘Dhaakad’ along with Kho Kho Federation of India officials and BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri.

Sumitra Mahajan, addressing the players and coaches, expressed her happiness in promoting the sport as she herself played Kho Kho. She highlighted the government’s efforts through Khelo India to promote indigenous sports, emphasizing the importance of showcasing talent in various sporting events.

Kho Kho Federation of India president Sudhanshu Mittal mentioned Delhi’s excitement in hosting the championship with a significant participation of 73 teams and over 1300 players from across the country. He emphasized Kho Kho as more than just a game, but an emotion and a cultural phenomenon uniting people.

The championship aims to provide a platform for talented Kho Kho players to showcase their skills and inspire the next generation. With a record participation from 37 States/Union Territories, the event signifies a step towards promoting Indian sports on a global scale, as stated by Sumitra Mahajan and Sudhanshu Mittal.
