Dilara, Fariha, and Shorifa included in Bangladesh women’s team squad for T20I series against Australia

Dhaka, March 27 (IANS) Fargana Hoque has been omitted from the Bangladesh women’s T20I squad for the upcoming series against Australia, with Dilara Akter, Fariha Trisna, and Shorifa Khatun stepping in as replacements. The decision comes after a disappointing 0-3 ODI series loss to Australia.

Hoque’s poor performance in the ODI series led to her exclusion from the T20I squad, opening the door for new faces to rejuvenate the team’s performance in the shorter format. Akter, Trisna, and Khatun have been drafted in to bring their unique skills and T20 experience to the team lineup.

Chief selector Sajjad Ahmed highlighted the need for versatility and dynamism in the team composition, explaining the rationale behind the changes. “Trisna got the nod ahead of Disha as she is a left-arm pacer and adds variety to the bowling,” Ahmed said. “Dola has been picked over Fargana. She is a wicketkeeper-batter who we believe, has the talent to succeed in the T20 format. Shorifa Khatun is an allrounder who bowls off-spin and bats in the late order. She can also develop into a T20 specialist.”

The T20I series between Bangladesh and Australia is set to kick off on March 31 at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. Bangladesh will look to bounce back from their ODI series defeat and showcase a strong performance against the formidable Australian side.
