Parag reflects on match-winning 84 in IPL 2024: “Focused on the ball and believed in my practice”

Riyan Parag’s heroics led Rajasthan Royals to a 12-run victory over Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024 match on Thursday. Parag’s unbeaten 84 off 45 balls stole the show as he showcased his talent and skill, hitting seven fours and six sixes.

Parag initially seemed slow but picked up momentum after Ravichandran Ashwin’s cameo. His aggressive batting, including smashing 25 runs off the final over, helped him achieve his best-ever IPL score. Parag credited his success to focused practice under RR’s Director of High Performance Zubin Bharucha.

Despite battling the flu, Parag managed to contribute significantly to RR’s victory after his stellar performance in domestic cricket. He revealed that being assigned the number four slot in the team gave him the confidence and familiarity to excel on the big stage.

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel praised Ashwin for easing the pressure off Parag, allowing him to play freely and score big. Patel highlighted Parag’s belief in his abilities and his ability to rise to the occasion, showcasing his talent on the big stage.

With two wins at home, Rajasthan Royals will now face Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on April 1 for their first away match of the season. Parag’s exceptional innings and RR’s strong start provide them with momentum as they look to continue their winning streak on the road.
