Mumbai Indians Skipper Hardik Pandya Booed by Home Fans at Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2024

Mumbai Indians Skipper Hardik Pandya Booed by Home Fans

Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya faced boos from fans during pre-game training and toss against Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium. Hardik, replacing Rohit Sharma as captain, was booed in earlier matches as well, showing discontent over franchise’s decision.

Despite the usual heckling from opposing team’s fans, the surprising turn came when Mumbai fans chanted “Rohit, Rohit” while Pandya warmed up. The fans only stopped when Rohit Sharma, the former skipper, appeared and was appreciated by the crowd.

During the toss, heckling continued as fans booed Pandya while he spoke with Sanjay Manjrekar. The fans only calmed down when Pandya expressed gratitude towards Mumbai Indians’ supporters, despite their disapproval of his captaincy.

While reports suggested that the franchise expected booing and asked for security intervention, Mumbai Cricket Association denied such claims. They stated that they will follow BCCI protocols regarding crowd behavior in the stadium.

Pandya, rumored to be guaranteed captaincy before joining the team, faced backlash from fans for a decision made by the franchise for the team’s future. Despite maintaining composure, it was evident that Pandya was unhappy with the treatment he received from the fans.
