Sanju Samson penalized for slow over rate in RR’s last-ball defeat to GT in IPL 2024

Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over rate in their defeat to Gujarat Titans. Samson’s unbeaten 68 couldn’t stop GT’s thrilling win, snapping RR’s unbeaten streak. Despite the loss, RR remains the top-ranked side on the points table.

Samson and Riyan Parag’s partnership of 130 runs helped RR post 196/3, but GT chased down the target, with Shubman Gill scoring 72 and Rashid Khan’s cameo. Samson admitted it was hard to pinpoint where RR lost the match and credited GT for their performance.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Samson was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” said a statement from the IPL. Samson praised GT’s performance and acknowledged the competitiveness of the match, despite believing that 196 was a winning total.

After suffering their first loss at home, RR will now face Punjab Kings in Mullanpur. Samson will look to bounce back and lead his team to victory in their upcoming match.
