11 Indian Racewalkers Selected to Compete in Race Walking Team Championships in Different Categories

Five Indian athletes, along with two women, are set to compete in the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships in Antalya on April 21. Among the participants are Ram Baboo, Suraj Panwar, Servin Sebastian, Arshpreet Singh, Vikash Singh, Ramandeep Kaur, and Mokavi Muthurathinam. Other Indian runners will also be taking part in the marathon race walk mixed relay.

The event will see 431 racewalkers from 52 countries vying for spots in the upcoming Paris Olympic Games. The World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships will feature senior 20km races with 198 athletes and U20 races with 106 athletes. The marathon race walk mixed relay will also make its debut, offering spots for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

China dominated the last edition of the championships in Muscat in 2022, with Ma Zhenxia looking to defend her senior women’s 20km title. Other top contenders include Peru’s Kimberly Garcia and Ecuador’s Glenda Morejon. The mixed relay event will feature reigning Olympic champions and Tokyo medallists, adding to the competitive field in Antalya.

Notable athletes listed for the championships include Sweden’s Perseus Karlstrom, Brazil’s Caio Bonfim, Ecuador’s Brian Pintado, and Japan’s Ryo Hamanishi. The competition is expected to be fierce, with top racewalkers from around the world vying for Olympic qualification spots.
