Faf du Plessis acknowledges RCB’s limited bowling options in IPL 2024

Mumbai Indians Dominate RCB in IPL 2024 Match

After Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by seven wickets in the recent IPL match, RCB captain Faf du Plessis attributed their struggles to a lack of bowling prowess. The match saw RCB posting 196/8 with the bat, only to see MI chase down the total in 15.3 overs.

Du Plessis expressed, “From a batting perspective we have to push for 220. From a bowling perspective, we don’t have as many weapons.” All RCB bowlers struggled, with an economy rate above 10. Du Plessis emphasized the need for early breakthroughs to avoid being on the back foot.

MI’s successful chase of 197 was aided by the dew factor, enabling an explosive opening stand of 101 runs by Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma. Du Plessis acknowledged MI’s pressure on RCB bowlers, stating, “We spoke about the dew…we felt we needed to get 215, maybe even 220.”

While RCB’s batting showed promise with du Plessis and Rajat Patidar’s half-centuries, the lack of top-order partnerships was noted. Du Plessis lamented crucial wickets at key moments, hindering their push for a bigger total. The loss marks RCB’s fourth consecutive defeat.

Looking ahead, RCB will face Sunrisers Hyderabad, seeking to end their losing streak. With a current ninth position in the standings and a net run-rate of -1.124, RCB aims to bounce back on April 15 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
