Pathirana not “overthinking” results, says after taking four wickets against MI in IPL 2024

In a thrilling match against Mumbai Indians, Matheesha Pathirana led Chennai Super Kings to victory with a stellar bowling performance. Pathirana’s 4-28 spell proved crucial in defending a score of 206, earning him the Player of the Match award. Despite missing previous matches due to injury, Pathirana’s focus on execution paid off in the end.

During the powerplay, Pathirana remained calm and focused on his game plan, which ultimately boosted his confidence. He emphasized that he prioritizes execution over results, trusting that his skills will be rewarded. His key wickets of Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Romario Shepherd were instrumental in CSK’s victory.

Shardul Thakur, another key player for CSK, highlighted the strategy to slow down Rohit Sharma through slower balls as a crucial factor in the team’s success. Thakur’s bravery in challenging the opposition batsmen paid off, especially during Rohit’s strong innings. The familiarity with the pitch, used previously in MI’s match against RCB, also played a role in the team’s decision to rely on slower deliveries.

The combination of Pathirana’s exceptional bowling and Thakur’s strategic approach proved to be decisive in CSK’s triumph over MI in a high-stakes encounter. The team’s ability to adapt their tactics based on pitch conditions and opposition strengths was key in securing a valuable victory.
