IRS Officer Ekta Breaks Records and Wins National Powerlifting Medals at Age 50

At the age of 50, Ekta Vishnoi, a senior woman bureaucrat in Delhi, has shattered stereotypes by excelling in the world of Powerlifting. She recently won multiple medals at the National Senior Powerlifting Championship in Hyderabad, competing with girls half her age.

Vishnoi, Deputy Director General at Sports Authority of India, clinched a silver in deadlift with a lift of 165kg and a Bronze overall with lifts of 132.5 kg in squat, 70 kg in bench press, and 165 kg in deadlift, breaking all records of the Master 2 category in the competition.

A veteran in the field, Vishnoi had previously secured gold medals in national masters powerlifting championship and at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship and Asian Powerlifting Championship 2022. Her outstanding achievements led to her being honored by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman in 2023.

Aside from her athletic prowess, Vishnoi is excelling as an administrator, serving as the Mission Director of Fit India Movement and heading the Khelo India Scheme. Her next goal is to represent India at the World Masters Powerlifting Championship in South Africa in October this year, aiming to win more medals for the nation.
