Kolkata’s ‘Big Three’ Football Clubs Revive Glory Days

Kolkata, April 16 (IANS) – AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey praised Kolkata’s Mohun Bagan Super Giant, East Bengal FC, and Mohammedan Sporting for winning four titles this football season. He highlighted the clubs’ efforts in reviving Kolkata’s football legacy.

Chaubey commended the clubs, stating, “It’s a remarkable year for the Kolkata clubs to bring home four titles this season. Lakhs of football fans are celebrating Kolkata’s football legacy, which once dominated the sport in the country.”

Mohun Bagan began their successful campaign by winning the Durand Cup and recently clinched the ISL Shield in front of 61,000 fans at the Salt Lake Stadium. Mohammedan Sporting also added to the city’s football history by winning the I-League trophy, while East Bengal FC triumphed in the Super Cup earlier this year.

Chaubey highlighted the significance of the clubs’ success, mentioning, “Bringing home multiple trophies is a sign of new-age football in West Bengal, showcasing the adaptability of these clubs to the modern football landscape.”

The AIFF President emphasized the massive fan support for the ‘Big Three’ clubs and predicted a significant impact on Indian Football with Mohammedan Sporting set to join Mohun Bagan and East Bengal in the ISL next season.
