Air quality worsens again, ‘poor’ in Noida, ‘very poor’ in Greater Noida

The air pollution around Greater Noida as well as Noida increased again after 14 days gap. Recently the city has recorded an air quality index (AQI) at the level of 332 on Friday and 329 on Saturday, these two are considered” very poor”.

Coming to Noida, the condition is far from better, the air quality still remains poor with an AQI reading of 286 on Saturday. The monitoring station, of four two, the ones in sectors 112 and 62 have recorded the” very poor” category over 300. These two stations are around city borders that have heavy traffics said air quality experts. They also mentioned that these levels are lower around Sector 1 as well as 125. 

The air quality around Ghaziabad is also recorded as poor with an AQI reading of 284, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)’s 4 pm bulletin. 

As per CPCB, between 0 and 50 of AQI reading is regarded as ”good”, 101 and 200 as” moderate”, 51 and 100 as “satisfactory”, 301- 400 as” very poor”, 300 as” poor”, 401 and 500 ”severe”.

Air Pollution around Greater Noida worsened to the ”very poor” category on November 11 on AQI reading. Later it improved to the” poor” category over the past few days. Now it has reached to moderate category. On November 24th, it reached 197 which is regarded as the “moderate” category. On 25th November it reached 332 i.e “ very poor” according to CPCB data. 

“The wind direction over the past two days has been causing higher pollution as it passes through parts of Delhi, Faridabad and Greater Noida, skipping Noida and Ghaziabad. We have not noticed any sudden change in local pollution sources,” said Radhey Shyam, regional officer, UPPCB, Greater Noida.
