Anil Deshmukh Money Laundering case: what all happened to date

The SC rejected a Maharashtra government’s plea against a CBI probe into Anil Deshmukh, the ex-Home Minister who faces Money Laundering allegations.

The sc expressed its anguish, stating that if the state’s filing the petition it seems like they are trying to protect Mr Anil Deshmukh. A two member-bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and MR Shah added that the state should be ready for any probe to ensure purity in administration.

What all happened?

• Param Bir Singh wrote a letter to Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray, accusing Anil Deshmukh Deshmukh had for asking Police Inspector (API) Sachin Waze to collect Rs 100 crore every month.
• First Maharashtra government denied theallegations but later had to take resignation from Anil Deshmukh after Supreme Court’s order.
• In April Bombay High Court allowed CBI to start a preliminary inquiry forallegations against Anil Deshmukh
• The Central Bureau of Investigation summoned Anil Deshmukh on 14th April
• ED and CBI investigated the case further and accused Anil Deshmukh of transferring the money to his Shell companies in Nagpur.
• Wife, Son, and Daughter-in-law of Anil Deshmukh were also accused in the case in the latter part of the investigation.
• ED attachedDeshmukh’s house in Mumbai for Rs1.54 crore, and 25 lands in Raigadh for a value of Rs2.67 crore attached in the money laundering case.
• Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided on the house of Anil Deshmukh in Nagpur in connection with the ₹100 crore extortion case.
• Supreme Court (SC) refused Anil Deshmukh plea for interim protection against arrest.

After the rejection of the bail plea of Anil Deshmukh by the Supreme Court and consistent actions by ED and CBI, many are guessing that CBI may soon arrest Anil Deshmukh at any point in time.
