Arunachal Pradesh is one of the important states of India located in the northeastern region. It was formed on February 20, 1987. Therefore, every year, February 20 is commemorated as Arunachal Pradesh Foundation Day. This year it will be celebrated on February 20, 2024, Tuesday. On this day, Arunachal Pradesh became a “full-fledged state” and a legal state of Independent India.

History

The North-East Frontier Agency was founded in 1954. Until 1960 the India-China relations were friendly. However, in 1962, a border dispute escalated between the two countries which resulted in certain wars. The Chinese army took possession of a significant portion of Arunachal Pradesh and established their rule temporarily during the 1962 Sino-Indian War. China was declared victorious in 1963 and went back to the McMahon Line.

Later the Chief Commissioner of Arunachal Pradesh, K.A.A. Raja, and the Director of Research, Bibhabasu Das Shastri contacted North-East Frontier Agency Arunachal Pradesh on January 20, 1972 and declared Arunachal Pradesh as a union territory. Finally, on February 20, 1987, Arunachal Pradesh was declared as a full-fledged state.
