Bengali New Year is celebrated every year as the first day of bengali calendar. This year Bengali New Year will be celebrated on April 15, 2022. This new year is celebrated with pomp all over West Bengal. Bengali New Year is also known as Nabarasha, Poila Baisakh, Nobo Borso, or Poila Boishakh. Usually, this festival is celebrated on the 14th or 15th of April. It is believed that the month of Baisakh is very auspicious in Bengal. From decorating the house to visiting the temple, it is a tradition to take blessings on this day. People go to each other’s houses and wish them “শুভ নব বর্ষ”

The first day of Baisakh month holds a very special significance for the Bengali community. People of the Bengali community today wear traditional clothes to share happiness with each other. On this New Year’s day, Bengali people prepare delicious food at home. Cow Mata is worshiped on this day. They are bathed in the morning and tilak is applied. Blessings are obtained by offering bhog to the cow and touching her feet.

It is a tradition to wear traditional attire on the day of Poila Baisakh, which is still practiced by many people today. In this month, all auspicious works like marriage, home marriage, shaving, buying a house, etc. are done. Not only this, fairs are organized at many places on this day. On this day, onions, green chilies, and fried Hilsa fish are eaten in homes. There is also a tradition of burning straw on this day.
