According to a biography written by John Graf Clukes, Mother Teresa was deeply influenced by the stories of missionary life and her service in Bengal, India, since childhood. He had decided at the age of 12 that he would dedicate his life to religion. Learned English as well as becoming a missionary

Consolidating her intention to come to India, Mother Teresa decided to go to the Institute of Blessed Virgin Mary in Ireland in 1928, where its members are called Sisters of Loreto. His intention behind this was to become a missionary and learn English as it was the instruction language of the Sisters of Lorates in India.

Name changed after coming to India

After coming to Ireland, he never saw his mother and any other family member in his life. She came to India in 1929 and spent her early training in Darjeeling where she learned Bengali and took her first religious vows in 1931. Her childhood name was Acnes but she chose Teresa after coming to India because she wanted to honor Saints Theresa Australia and Teresa of Avila with her name.

Mother Teresa taught at the Lorette Convent School in Entale in Calcutta for nearly 20 years, and in 1944 she was appointed headmistress of the school. She loved to teach, but she used to be very distressed by the poverty around her in Calcutta. She was deeply saddened by the situation arising out of the Bengal famine in 1943 and the subsequent Quami violence in August 1946. During this, when she was going to Darjeeling, she was shaken by the voice of the soul, which she considered the message of God, and only then she decided to serve the poor.

To be able to live comfortably among the people, she first changed her dress to a sari and had to live in a hut. She did not even hesitate to beg to feed the people, during which she struggled with herself, but she did not find the way to return to the convent and was engaged in service.

Soon people joined him and started a campaign to serve the poorest of the poor. After this, the attention of government officials to the church went to him and he kept getting help in his work. He also got permission from the church to open the Missionaries of Charity. After which a service center was opened for leprosy which was named Shantinagar.

He also reached abroad in the 1960s and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for his selfless service. By the time he died in Kolkata in 1997, his works had spread to more than 120 countries, where 450 brothers and five thousand sisters of the Missionaries of Charity were running more than six hundred human service campaigns.
